Hi all my name is Craig, My buddy and I are planning to put together a small studio in an industrial building in Brisbane (still to be determined), In costing our project I was wondering what height to make the ceiling of our live room. There is a good chance we will end up somewhere with 6mtr high ceilings, are there any optimum ceiling heights we should take advantage of in such an area? Or is it generally go as high as you can afford (without being stupidly high I guess)? the live room will most probably be around 8-10 square metres.
8-10 m2???? This is not a very large room. 3.3X3 meters or something close it....with a 6 meter ceiling?? :? Do you mean that the walls will be 8-10 meters long? This will give you 64-100 m2 which is a really nice big room and in that case I´d say go full hight! (...or as high you can with treatment.) ....and then some nice clouds to hang up there. :D HOOK
im an idiot.. it will be closer to 20 or 25 metres square (5X5-5X4) i was thinking like a 3 metre + ceiling may be better than the standard 2.4, just wanted to know if there is some kinda guideline to follow an 8x10 metre room with a six metre high ceiling would kick ass though unfortunately with the size of sheds we're looking at there would be nowhere for the control room.
is the total space 8x10 or just the live room? or would the live room occupy something like 5x4 and the rest would be a control room? it might help to explain how you plan on using the space, priorities for CR vs live room, music types etc... and what options you are considering... its sometimes hard to work in a vacuum... :-) generally speaking, a 4m-5m height would be nice but depending on how the rooms are sized, 3m-4m might be correct.
Welcome to JLS RSD. Think about how this thread is going already. Read this and follow it to make it better for everyone, including yourself. I am looking forward to you posts and your design as it evolves. Helpfully, Andre
Andre, Glenn, Hook, sorry to be so vague, I was aware of that post but the early stages of our project its difficult to give any kind of detail. Right now im Trying to price a fictional room in a fictional building. Just need to be sure we will be able to afford to build the room/s once we sign a lease. However Glenn Has answered enough for me to move on. I will be sure to have more detail next time I promise. :)
G'day, I totally understand. I'm looking at commercial properties on the Gold Coast to move my home studio into. However, it's not a fictional property. The property exist and is very real, I just don't have access to it yet. Where in Brisbane are you looking?
hey mate, we want to be close to the city, south side seems to have the best options so far, even found a few free standing 120m2 places which would rule, but probably will end up with one of those conjoined long narrow bessa block places  not bad for a starter though. I've seen your thread, looks like a great setup, maybe one day we will have something as nice as that, we already have all the awesome toys  , just not enought funding for the awesome studio.
