Hello !
(Sorry for my english, I hope I'll be clear, despite I don't always know the technical )
I've reading lots of threads here about building vocal booths and I'd like to try.
I'm currently renting an old flat without soundproofing : I hear the neighbours (and they hear me as well), the cars in the street etc.
So I'd like a small booth to play and record acoustic instruments (guitar, violon, accordion, small percussions and voice) : nothing really loud nor low.
I'm thinking about building something in wood, with double walls filled with rockwool. The shape would be rectangular, and the inside dimensions would be : length : 1m80 ; width : 1m30 ; height : 2m20.
I have a few questions about this :
- is the air supply really important for such a small place (only one person inside) ? I can't figure how long one can stay in a booth...:)
- what should I put on the walls and ceiling ? I've thought of putting wooden floor, but how should I treat the walls ? Acoustic foam ?
- should I really matter about acoustic treatment (corner traps etc.) with a small place like this or is it unecesseray ?
I hope I have been clear with my explanations ! Thank for your help and for this nice forum + good luck to those who build their own booth !:)
Questions about a small booth

Hai SB, welcome to this forum! You posted this in the construction part of the forum tho I think posting in the "studio design" part would be a better place to start. Maybe some mod could transfer this thread, on your request?Hello !
Yes. Big room with more people equals (sort of) small room with less ppl. If the room is airtight, and small, you might wanna have some oxygen to breath. Also keeps your head clear. you don't wanna pass out, right? you could to small sessions, say max 30 minutes, then open the door and let the air in again. But adding some ventilation system is really something to consider. For such small room which houses only 1 person per session a 12cm fan might even do the trick. Should not be that hard. IIRC there's a vocalbooth construction report on this forum with exactly that kinda venting. Look around, read some more.I have a few questions about this : - is the air supply really important for such a small place (only one person inside) ? Wood floor is good, thread the walls/ceiling (corners!) with some woolpannels or alike. Easy to DIY and cheap too.- what should I put on the walls and ceiling ? I've thought of putting wooden floor, but how should I treat the walls ? Acoustic foam ?
Every room needs acoustic adjustments. Basstrapping is always good. Use the corners of your room to fill them with woolpanels. Not only is this cheap and easy to do yourself, it also makes your room sound and look much better :)- should I really matter about acoustic treatment (corner traps etc.) with a small place like this or is it unecesseray ?
Thanks for your answer and sorry for the wrong forum, I don't know how to move my message...
I guess I'll have to consider the ventilation question before I start building my booth...
Thanks for your advices !
