Hello, I'm an artist from Italy, currently doing everything in my basement converted into a studio. Horrible.
...
The room will be a control room and a live room- I'll be doing my mixes and entire composition in that room. Insulation from outside is not important. Fortunately there are no neighbors close enough to hear the thing and the family doesn't care
help me help me

And finally,
What is your question, or your ideas on what to do with the space? other than it having 2 room's have you any ideas for layout's?, what kind of instruments will you be recording in the live room, how many people do you usually have in the control room, how much equipment is going in the control room and also what height are your ceilings within the space. also how high off the ground are the windows and what size are they?
If you answer all these points in as much detail as you can i'm sure you will get great help from the many experts on the forum.
Good luck with your designing
cheers
Alan
Dear Alan,
thank you for your prompt reply and for all your suggestions about this forum.
Our aim is to create a project studio and to enlarge and make grow our activity in the future.
Actually we are trying to understand if the characteristic "L" shape of the room may give us problems, so we would like to know what to do in order to minimize the problems of the low frequencies and how to improve the acoustic of the room for the recording, the listening and the mixing.
We don't have any problems nor regarding to the acoustic pollution either with our neighborhood. We thank you for your piece of advice about the Radio Shack Sound Level Meter. However, the acoustic pression is not too high.
We would like to make a control room and a live room which should be divided by the green dotted line you can see in the drawing. Actually we can't bild up the wall, so for now we will make a single room, even if we know that this is not the best choice. As soon as we can we will divide it into two rooms.
Our budget is 1000,00 Euros (about 1482.90 US Dollars, if we're not wrong...), excluding the wall we told you before.
In the living room we would like to record drum, bass, guitar and vox, but always one by one. We would like to obtain a good room for the acoustic of the drums.
In the control room there will be two people up to a maximum of 4 people, and there will be the following equipment:
- a mixer 16ch-1rack 16 units
- a Mac g4 with two monitors
- two monitors ns-10
At the moment the room is a living room and is located in the basement. The floor is tiled and the walls are daubed.
The ceiling is 230 cm high.
The two windows are 97x73 cm and are 170 cm high from the ground.
The smokestack of the chimney starts at 100 cm from the ground.
Thank you very much for all you can do for us and sorry for our bad English!! If there's something not clear please let us know.
We look forward to hearing from you soon.
Best regards,
Davide and Cesare
The numbers you present on the picture do not add up.
This is going to be helpful that they add up correctly.
At the top of the picture it reads 500, outside dimension, but
the inside numbers total 517.
That is only one place. None of the numbers seem to add up correctly.
ok sorry,
the correct outside dimension is 517.All the measure are in cm.
Yes sir, but these items need to be corrected on the plan. Trying to keep up with what number goes to which wall as this thread develops will be more trouble then most will go through.
i would make the narrower part the CR and the bigger section the live room so its easy to get people and equip in and out.
ok
The ceiling is 243 cm high.
