I did some searching of the archives and couldn't find any info on methods of closing the gaps between door frames installed on either wall of a double wall system. How do you seal the wall cavity off without creating flanking paths? Can anyone point me in the right direction?
File not preserved: Door Frame.skp
Guilford of Main Fabric or Burlap. The same material used to cover fiberglass exposed into room for acoustic purposes. Material has to be fire rated/safe for application. Material is attached to both inner and outer assembly. There will be a little flanking but the point is to keep the fiberglass and other material particles in the wall. Being safe in this circumstance over ways the small amount of flanking caused. I believe Rod has a very good diagram of double door assembly in his book. This has been asked and answered on the forum. How ever, like many other questions with out the right search terms and the endurance to skim many pages looking for the answer it can be challenging to find. I find using using my Google Tool bar and hitting "search site" is the best method of searching for answers. Marc
Thanks for the response. I just got home, looked at Rod's book and answered my own question. He says that the amount of isolation lost by building the door frame right through is minimal, so it's not a huge worry compared to making sure the door system itself is well-sealed and stable enough for the weight of the door(s). And you're right about Google, I'm going to do that in the future. The board's own search function is not the best as it simply selects threads containing the search term, but not individual messages, as Google does.
Yup Rod suggests the "Super Door" the book over double door system. Pretty expensive either way. I'm going with double door cause I have too (now). Marc
I'm using a double door as well.
