Hey All, I am a producer from the small island of Barbados, I am looking to move my current project studio into a slightly bigger space. I am leaving the island soon to go to SAE to do my degree, so my partners will need access to the studio and the setup will be outside of the house so they will be able to access it while I am gone. Ok Lets start. The room I am goin to be moving the studio into is actually two rooms which will be "merged" to make two divisions. The rooms are separated by a 6 inch brick wall. My parents would like it to be sound proof especially because the master bedroom is directly above the rooms and I wanted to incorporate a live room/band house in one of the rooms. THE PLAN The surrounding structure is all brick wall. In the picture of the studio plan (just a makeshift plan) all of the outer walls are 8 inch brick. The room measurements are as follows room on the left in total is 6 1/2 feet by 14 feet and the ceiling is 9 feet high. the other room is 7 1/2 feet by 14 feet by 9 feet tall. The room on the right is the live room, the room on the left is the control room with the booth (smaller of the two). The booth is supposed to be 3 1/2 feet by 6 1/2 feet (roughly when the drywall is put up it wil be less). I wanted to conserve as much space as possible so I was goin to use 2x3 studs for the walls and ceiling and floor. Now I would like to isolate the room by just having the studs only touching the concrete on the floor and letting the structure support itself. {I would like some guidance here because here in barbados we dont have alot of supplies in terms of acoustical products so I have to use other means.} I cant find any rubber to make a floating floor so do I really need to float it?? The room is on the bottom floor by the garage like the garage is directly outside. and I am on a 2 acre spot of land with no neibors anywhere close. I will hang the drywall and insulate with pink fiberglass batting and alternate with black acoustic insulation from an air conditioning company that has it there so I said what the heck. I will put up 1/2 inch drywall on the studs and in sometimes use pegboard instead to absorb some of the sound ( i was told this would work well). The floor I was goin to carpet but I would like some input as to what I should use if carpet is not a good choice. the black triangles int he corners are supposed to be bass traps except the ones in front of the booth where I would like to soffit mount my BX8a's (again to save space but direct me if this is a waste of time because I think that these are too big for the room anyways so just guide me). The A/C company is right next door so I can get some rigid fiberglass panels from their dump only 1 inch tho and they will be in all shapes and sizes and have foil backing. The room has a slight bend then it bends back (again tryin to be an acoustician!! but blindly doing so) I would like to angle the ceiling from the booth right down to the back of the room. I would like to know how I should build the bass traps in my sitaution. or if to buy the auralex foam ones. Tryin to think of anything else I left out..... OH well if it comes back I will add it. So the questions. 1. Will it be sound proofed enuff (the walls are painted)? 2. Any tips for acoustically treating the rooms for the booth, control room and the live room. 3. Should I just build straight walls then use auralex to try to make it sound proper? (I really dont want to do this but I already have auralex panels that I would use in the booth: 7 2x4 2 inch wedges and 5 bass traps) 4. DO I need to buy smaller speakers? (I would like to upgrade my speakers anyways, I am in a toss up between JBL LSR4326P, the genelec 8020 or 8030, the dynaudio BMA5 or just settle with the new mackie MR5. I was actually contemplating to get a speaker to replace the BX8as because I dont quite like them... probably the room I am in now, something like the mackie HR824s or the JBL LSR4328Ps or anything like these. I would really like to buy monitors to last that I can keep for when i get back and build the permanent studio. 5. Should I change my design of the studio? (give me some pointers to maximize on the space) 6. The rear wall, should I put a diffuser or absorber there. 7. Should I use a sliding door instead of having a window by the booth and entering from the band house area. 8.The glass used is laminated glass 3/8th and 1/4 inch, the one to the live room is 2x4 feet and the one to the booth is 2x2. SHould I angle the glass in the control room to see into the live room upwards, downwards, away from the engineer or towards? 9.What should I put on the ceiling above the engineers head. 10.There are two windows that will be blocked out by the drywall and so on. one is on the top wall by the booth and the other one is the same place in the other room. do I need to do anything special here? 11.Where should I put the pegboard if I should use it at all 12. Carpet or other for the floor? 13. Should I make a special place for the drums and micing them or should they be ok in the live room with keys bass and elec guitar? Ok, thas all I can think of.... Sorry for it being so long but I need to clear this up and quick I am leaving Barbados 1st of March and would like most if not all of this to be finished. 14. I dont have access to acoustical caulk, is normal caulk or any other type of caulk or silicone acceptable??? I have read almost everything on ur site, well at least all the questions on the first page of every forum topic. But I would just like something a bit more catered towards me, so that i can go up right the first time. THANKS ALOT!!! Looking forward to hearing from you.

it seems like a tight space. given you're on 2 acres of land, it might make sense to expand the floor plan so you can get a better size control room, or make the live room smaller and expand the control room.
Since I posted this I have changed the design of it, and I know it seems like a small space, but with the budget, I dont really have much of a choice. So I decided to take out most of the wall and left 4 feet of wall by the booth and I will put up dry wall up all around the room with normal fiberglass batting. Then I will build a drywall partition closing the booth quite as it is there in the picture only difference is that the door will be basically in the drywall partition along with a window(I am using 3/8 and 1/4 inch laminated glass for the window, I also plan to angle it upwards so that the reflections divert to the ceiling). I have switched the control room to face the left wall and the monitors will be mounted on the left wall. and the live room will be merged with tthe control room. I will put a drum riser in the space in the top right hand side of the diagram.... and then put the other instruments around only when there is aband rehearsal or whatever. I have decided to build bass traps, my only problem is that I dont have access to any rigid fiberglass or rockwool here so I dunno what else I can use, I am goin to cover the 90 degree corners to make 45 degree corners bother vertically and horizontally between the wall and ceiling. I will use some type of insulation (hopefully you will reply with an alternative) in these angles and cover it with pegboard. and the ceiling will be pegboard all over and the floor will be linoleum. Iplan to float the floor in the booth with sand.... dont have anything else i can get neoprene is non existent here... And the small bit of auralex I have I will use in the booth. I am not sure if to use carpet in there or use the same linoleum. I dont know if to make it completely dead or leave the front part with the glass normal drywall and deaden the others, or if to leave the ceiling live with diffusion over the mic and carpet the floor... Please advise. So I would like to know the best way to set up the booth acoustically, also about the ceiling if it should be completely dead. and if linoleum on the floor is a good call. Thanks
