Hey there What a fantastic forum this is! I've startet drawing a studio in a basement and would like some feedback and ideas. generally on the placement of the Controlroom. The problem i have are the pipes running under the ceiling at about 1m80cm. As for now i have only drawn the CR, because i wasnt sure of the placement of it. The dimensions of the rooms are: live room 4,9 m x 4 m control room 2,5 rear to window x 2,8 if you move the wall the room will be 2,5 x 4,2 meters

Here is another idea. It will make the "liveroom" a bit smaller and the controll a bit larger. The room will have a little "cave" at the end where the pipes are. mixer and monitors will be there. There will be a window to the "live" Room and the lounge will be isolated from the rest of the rooms with a wall with a double door in it. What do you all think?

Allright here is a 3rd suggestion: the downside of this is that half of the cotrolroom will have very low ceiling....about 1m 80 cm because of the pipes and because i want to try and maintain the symmetri of the room. Please make your suggestions if you have any. :) Oh and the corners outside the CR are just dead corners...probably gonna be filled with insulation

ok here is a 3rd design which i like alot beacuse it will be easier to work around those pipes. My question is this. do i need to build a back wall in the CR to maintain symmetry or is it mostly around the listening position one needs it? Please let me know what you think.

this last one looks good. on the back wall of the CR add bass trapping. i'd also soffit out opposite the pipes so it symmetrical on the ceiling.
Thanks for the feedback Glenn! I was aiming towards this last one aswell. pimarily because the piping wont be such a big problem. Now for some questions. 1. is it important that the back wall is symmetric as well(its not on the drawing? Or is it mostly around the listening position it has to be symmetric? 2. Can i put in a window in the backwall without compromising the possiblities to make basstraps? 3. the room is only 2 meters high(6,5 feet) - will this be a problem except to the tall guys out there :-)?
the back wall doesn't have to be symmetric in terms of look but you want symmetry in terms of acoustic response esp at mid and high frequencies. bass is less critical in terms of symmetry. you can put in a window but i'd plan on putting in a heavy drape to cover it when necessary. 2m is pretty short...
