Hi everyone. I have been looking through this site for a very long time. I think it is probably the best site out there for studio design and builds. My problem is between reading through this site the auralex site and talking to friends that have built room, I am very confused. I plan to build a room in the back half of my garage. The space I have to work with is approx. 11'x12' with 12' ceiling. We only have to build 2 walls as there are already 2 existing walls in place. I produce and remix dance music so the room will be for the whole process from programming to mixing and sometimes recording vocals, bass & percussion. My goal is to not bother my wife and neighbors while I am working. I would also like the acoustics to be tight. My family room is on the other side of the back wall and the master bedroom is right above. I do not have a very big budget so I am not sure where to start. To be totally honest I have no clue what to do at all in terms of design and products. The building process is not a problem it's just the design. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!!! Anthony
with the master bedroom overhead, your bet bet will be to create a suspended ceiling (assuming the structure can support it - a licensed structural engineer can tell you) using isolation clips from the existing joists, or to build a room within a room since you have the ceiling height and add a new set of ceiling joists on new interior wall frames. you'll want to avoid just adding another wall inside one of the existing walls without re-ordering the materials on it. where are you in NJ?
