HI
I am new here and want to say cheers to all of you . Great forum you have here !
I am about to build a project studio in Vienna . The place i found has pretty low ceiling with a lot of joists and is 100m2 big . The overall height is 255 cm ,the joists are 32 cm so they are 223 cm and there is one huge joist in the middle which is 214 cm from the floor . It seems like the only place i can afford so i want to ask you what do you think about it or if you have any suggestions about the plan and overall design etc .
I would like to have drum booth, vocal/instr booth , live room and control room . I would record there mostly jazz music (my projects and bands ) .
I dont really need a very big control room but there has to be one for mixing and tracking .
I will post you the picture of the plan with right measures . I could also post some suggestions that i have if you are interested ...
Thanks for your help

What do you think about this ?
I'd like to be kind, but not til you re-read the forum rules and re-size your pix
Yeah i got it , hope it works now !
Any suggestions ?
Nobody !?
Aloha and welcome to the forum,
A couple of questions for you, please...
- Any pics of the room/s?
- What are the blue areas?
Aloha 8)
Hi
The 4 blue areas are the roof windows ( could be closed optional )
I have pictures i just need to resize them and make them OK for this forum .
Should i post the pic here or ?
Right now its just an empty space (one room) with the WC , the second sketch is my idea/suggestion ...
here are the photos
My problem is that the ceiling is pretty low right now and i have to treat it right.I have this idea about the ceiling which is to install 10 or 20 cm rock wool or mineral wool on the ceiling between the 30cm joists and cover it with the fabric . In that case ill end up with 230 cm high ceiling which is treated and hopefully not over treated . I might even wrap the rock wool in some plastic bags before i put fabric just to keep so mid highs freq..... And of course a lot of self made bass traps all around . What do you think about this way of treating the low ceiling ???
Anybody ?
Is this not enough info ?
Here is another plan , its similar to the first one but some walls are angled and the visual contact between big live room and small live room is new , thats important ....
I would like to give you some more information about this project.
The ceiling is 250 cm high , 4 joists that you can see in the plan are 32 cm from the ceiling ( so that makes them 218 cm high from the floor ) and the one middle big joist is lower for 5 cm than the other joists so 213 from the floor.
Ceiling ,floor and joists are all concrete the walls too .
There are people all around the place ( but nobody is living above and under ) and the people in here are very sensitive about the noise (too sensitive) ,so i think i have to start with room within a room concept and that includes ceiling too of course floating everything.
My idea was to install two layers of the dry wall (gypsum plates 15 mm) all around the place (walls and ceiling ) and the ear space ( between the concrete walls/ceiling and two layers of dry/gypsum walls to fill with 5 cm of rock wool or fiberglass or similiar on the walls and 10 cm insulation on the ceiling .
That lives me with 237 cm hight of the ceiling . Than to install 5 cm of rock wool on the ceiling and cover it with fabric . That makes 5cm + 2 cm of frame for the fabric = 7cm so the ceiling is going to be 230 cm high after all treatments (soundproofing and acoustical).
If i somehow make the wall out of the biggest middle joist (build the wall under it so joist will look like a wall and not a joist) and also build the walls of the other rooms so that i also transform good or some part of the smaller joists into the walls, i get the place with 230 cm high ,good treated ceiling and just couple of small joist parts (left overs ) on it.
If i am not missing something here or mixing up the things or talking nonsense then it could be OK . What do you think ?
-is it better for sound proof isolation to put the third layer of the dry wall on the ceiling and only 5 cm rockwool insulation instead of 10 ? ( i would have 3,5 cm higher ceiling )
- Is this enough sound proof isolation ? I need to keep the sound inside ! Outside is not loud or crowded so its not a problem .
- Do you see any possibilities to make the design over this plan and build the walls as much as possible under the joists ?
- I am going to build the windows between the booths and all the other rooms with two plexiglas boards each 4mm thick with one on each side of the wall and ear between ,it is much cheaper then to order the "real studio windows , what do you think about this idea ?
- I cant float the floor because of the low ceiling and the budget , so i am going to put on the concrete floor something we call in Europe "Laminat floor" i dont know if you know what it is ? Is that enough ?
Sorry for my English , i hope you can understand what i am saying here .-
All the best
So if i understand this right my ceiling and walls would have more than 56 STC.
I am going to use one more layer of dry wall and steel studs :
-concrete (more than 30 cm) (it exist already)
-insulation 5 cm rock wool
-2 layer of dry wall
and again 5 cm of rockwool ( on the ceiling only)
Or am i wrong ?
This thread seem like a good monologue :(
Is there anything else i should do to get some help /replies from you guys ?
Do you need more info ?
Am i missing something here ?
Cheers
