I’ll be doing some firestopping work soon and I came across this mind bending question : How in hell am I going to fit a firestop in there ? Without creating any flanking path that is. Here’s a couples of picts to explain the situation as of now. My first idea was to put some nailing strips inside the outer frame bays at the same height as the inner frame then rest the GB on top of that see pic3 below Of course the GB would have to be cut precisely around each 2X4 studs then rested on RW on the top plate of the inner frame. Hope that is clear enough. Seems like a lot of tedious work Anyway if you guys think I am smoking the carpet let me know  … View 1&2 is what i have right now, Pic4 is another possible optionany suggestion. Regards

Yes... i am bumping myself ! Did i answer my own questions ?
I'm not sure what you are trying to achieve Eric. Could you please elaborate?
Obviously my question was not clear. Simply put , i am just wondering what would be the best way to put firestopping in the construction i have now. I have Rod's book, i think i have grasp the idea behind firestopping, but none of the example given in the book describe my situation, so i am brainstorming to find the best way to do it. Any hints welcome. Regards
Here is a couple of different ways of going about it. No matter what the situation is - just think about the goal....... you do not want the free passage of fire and hot gasses to pass from the wall asemblies up into the ceiling above - or from room to room. In the process you do not want to couple seperated structural assemblies together to create flanking issues. In addition - running vertically up the wall - you want a fire block in wall junctions - corners - and in distances as proscribed by your local building codes. The attached give you a number of simple details for firestopping at top of walls - and plan views for locations for vertical fireblocks.......... Rod
