Hi,
I have a (maybe) short to answer question: Since I want to gain very high TL through the walls of my live room, I'm thinking about building a poured concrete or maybe concrete block wall as the inner leaf of the two leaf wall construction (the outer leaf will be the existing 30 to 80 cm brickwall).
Is there any disadvantage of poured concrete as inner leaf compared to a studwall with 2 or 3 layers of gypsum board?
I just wondered because a poured concrete walls mass is much higher than the mass of the gypsumboard wall but I hardly see anybody building concrete walls as inner leafs.
I don't intend to float my concrete basement floor - could that be a problem using a poured concrete wall (maybe because both - inner (concrete) and outer leaf (brickwall) - will then be coupled firmly to the floor and therefore to each other? - or because the inner leaf and the floor then will be the same material and sound will travel lossless from the wall into the unfloated floor?)
anyone who can help me on this one?
thanks in advance!
Stud Wall vs. Poured Concrete Wall

The main thing that will change using a stiff mass for your inner walls is the amount of treatment necessary to make the room sound good - specifically, more bass trapping (gypsum on studs acts as a low frequency panel resonator) -
Also, make sure your masonry wall will have enough support - figure roughly 2 tons per cubic yard for solid masonry - so a 6" thick concrete wall 8 feet tall would weigh just under 6000 pounds for a 10 foot long section... Steve
STEEEEEEEEVE!! Nice to finally see you post here again. It's been a long time, not.? sure it is!
How ye'r doing?
Hey Ro :D Yeah, been awhile. Makin' good money with the corporate training/safety video gig on the side, over $25k in about 6 months part time (in between 12-hour shifts, 'way too many home projects, etc)
Weather's too cold in my un-insulated (that's gonna change) shop and I'm (sorta) caught up on video work temporarily, so thought I'd pop in for a look - seems like things'r running pretty good overall; good thing, 'cause this little bit of free time isn't lookin' like a habit so far... Steve
