Hello everyone, and thanks to Mr. Sayers for providing so great a resource as this. I have recently begun construction on a one room recording/rehearsal studio or, as someone on this forum put it, a 'guitar lounge'. I plan to record acoustic instruments almost exclusively (guitar, bass, drums, banjo, mandolin etc.) and mix them in this one room on a Mac based system. Please bear in mind that I am a musician and not an acoustics expert (or carpenter for that matter) and am in need of as much knowledgeable input as possible. So here is what I have to work with. I have a 21' x 21' x 98" room that has nothing in it but a small noisy furnace. It sits on a slab foundation and is connected to my house. When someone slams the back door of the house it rings loud and clear in my future studio. I live about half a mile from I-70, which can also be heard loud and clear. Disturbing the neighbors is not much of a concern as we are several hundred feet from the next house over. I'm building a room within a room with inside dimensions of 18'3'' x 15'3'' x 90". These dimensions came from Auralex's Acoustics 101 and fit my room perfectly. So far I have the wall framing done. I plan to fill them with pink stuff and cover the inside with 5/8 drywall. Here's a some picures of the furnace side of the room:

Since these pics were taken I've pulled down the flourescents in preparation for the ceiling joists. I plan on using two 8' 2x6s joined together with a 4' section of 2x6 because I can't think of a way to get 16' boards from Lowe's to my house. 2x6s instead of 2x8s to salvage as much ceiling height as possible. I toyed with the idea of using 2x4s doubled up but chickened out at the last minute. By the way; can I upload images directly to this sight? I see people doing it but I don't see how. Thanks for looking, Joe
