Hi,
My name is Giacomo from Italy. This forum is great, and I'd like to thank John Sayers and everyone involved for explaning and teaching so good.
I'd like to build a studio in a small apartment in the basement of my building.
After Sketchuping, here it is my design idea.
I've still some doubts about how design the control room (geometric shape and orientation). Any opinion?
Thank you in advance
Giacomo

Here's other images.
The position of the desktop behind the couch is just for home theatre applications; Is this bad?

Hai and welcome,
How 'bout you resizing them pix first? (see stickies)
Hi and thank you for answare.
Sorry I tought the limit was only on the size of the pictures.
So I've deleted the olds and theese are the new resized pictures.
H=3,15 Meters
Sorry angain.

Ciao Giacomo!
From what I've seen here on the forum on numerous occasions it kinda seems that your listening position and the 'guest couch' should be flipped. Else I feel you have some challenges in your stereo imaging. But then again, there's also that 38% of the room rule, so I'm a bit confused here. I really like the design though!
Penso è molto bene!
Thank you!
Yes, the problem is the position of the guest. I really don't like to have the breathe of the costumer or producer (whatever) just behind my head. Anyway I'd like to build a room with a good sound so I'm more worry about the shape and orientation of the in-room. If anyone desire to take a closer look here's the link to download the sketchup model.

Thank you again
Mmm... Edo was right, this is a better solution for stereo imaging. I've found information on speaker positioning and I tryed to follow the Dolby Indication for 5.1. Now I'm worry about the strange shape of the room and the idea of including speakers into walls. Does anyone knows which acoustic problems I'm going to find? How can I reduce the wood resonance problems?
Thank you
Can enyone tell me if I did something wrong and why I din't received other answare to my other question? If it's about some posting mistake please tell me where or how fix, I'd really like to receive some good advice on my project (also on posting).
Thank you
i like the second design (Immagine-4) but it also depends on the speakers you're planning on using - can they be soffit mounted? is that the best option? the "back room" approach can also be useful since the producer couch typically isn't sitting within the 5.1 layout and have a second one can be useful for creating a listening room for those on the couch.
Aaaa! I'm so happy I received a reply from Master Gulfo. I'm not joking, I've read all your posts, I know your skills and I really like your style. So thank you for the advice.
I think I'm going to buy Sky System One for 5.1 or something cheaper. So you advise me to soffit mount them? I'll check this possibility. In the meantime I look at the acoustic materials of insulation and I hope I'm not going to close all the resonance; that maybe would result the sound too little?
Some rock panel mixed with absorber would it be better?
Thanks
the key to 5.1 will be placement of absorption materials around the room to kill of unwanted reflections and still keep some life in the room and not interfere with the baffle extension created by the soffits. so you can use proper panels on the soffits around your monitors (assuming they can be soffit mounted - check with the manufacturer) and add absorption at the normal key reflection points and just above and below the panels. this will be your start point, you also want to calculate the position for reflection points from the rear speakers.
Thank you so much Master.
Sorry I delayed in reply, I tought noone would evermore answare, so thanks again.
Trough this forum it seems like everyone decide the studio design after decide the equipment. Is this the correct or only way? I mean, do I have to calculate the exact space for my monitor or can I use a standard dimension? If I'd like KRK and then I'd like to change for BluSky, do I have the possibility to change the shape of my cavity? If I have to fill all with absorption material, once I decide the shape of the cavity for monitor I'll cannot change monitor?
Then the reflection point for rear speaker... Mmm I see...
Thank you again. Soon I will upload some pics for show.
i think you should design it so the speaker cavities can accommodate the larger monitors and then build an "adapter" box to fit the smaller ones into it. then it should become an exercise to simply adjust the front baffle plate (cutting it larger) when you're ready to upgrade.
Thank you. Should I use some kind of vibration absorder material to accomodate the monitor? I'm scared of the vibration that can trasmit to the hole structure. what kind of wood is indicated? MDF?
Thank you
you could use a variety of rubber, padding, insulation, etc to ensure a good fit of the speaker to the box which would also decouple it.
