speaker wire extension? coupler?

Post by dynamike »

i soffit mounted my mackie hr824's. see my build here. . .
http://www.johnlsayers.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=8205

my problem is that my gear is further away from the monitors than expected. i need a few more feet to get to my central station!!!

coming out of my mackies i'm using the XLR out. so it's XLR to 1/4"

my question:
do i need a balanced 1/4" female to female coupler, or a balanced speaker cable that has 1 end female and the other male.

or another option all together? cut the end, solder something?
also, if i do this for 1 speaker, do i need to do the same to the other just so cable lengths are all the same?

What is a balanced speaker cable?
You need a signal cable as those speaks are powered, AFAIK.

Different lengths of wire will mess up things because of runtime differences.
At least somewhere in the 100.000 billion Hz.
Ehhh. I wouldn't worry about that.
