if i have a usb mixer can i connect an a/d converter to it ?? or do i need a interface with spdif or lightpipe ????

If your USB mixer has a digital input (e.g. S/PDIF, ADAT) then it should be a simple matter to connect a A/D converter. If however you only have analogue inputs (which i think is probably the case) then you will need some other method to get the digital signals into your computer.
