Yamaha NS-10M : Angled vs Straight

Post by mixboy2105 »

I've been told that Yamaha NS-10Ms should be positioned to fire straight down the room instead of angled in towards the head at mix position. Is this true?

Appreciate any explanation I could get.

depends on how and where they are set. if they are both string in front of you, then straight at you is proably best. if you have them on each end of an 2m console, then you'll want to angle them to face your seat.

Thanks for the feedback Gulfo,

Yes they are rather close-in, as my larger monitors are at the 30deg angle standard. Any others with feedback regarding this matter?

just the usual - don't put them on the console, put the on stands behind the console, minimize use of EQ, keep the volume level low when mixing, make sure the spread on the monitors gives you a good phantom image as compared to a single mono speaker (otherwise you have them too far apart or too close together) etc
