Division of available space

Hi All

I have been thinking if building a small addition to my house for recording.

The maximum interior dimensions would be L=18' W= 13.5' H= 9'

A couple of questions if I may

I need suggestions as to the division of space between the tracking area and mixing area.

Ideally I would like to leave the area wide open but I can see problems happening tracking loud instruments ie: drums etc. Assuming I went with the open concept how would I go about isolating a kit or the reverse, isolating the mixing area from loud obnoxious drum banging (I'm the drummer)

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated

It appears the whole venture is a no-go...spoke with a friend who is a general contractor and he pointed out so many alterations to my existing property that would have to be done to meet building code that it makes the whole project too expensive.

Oh well
