Would it be okay to turn on my monitors with a power strip?

Thanks

I have mine in a power conditioner for a year and they still work fine. A friend of mine keeps his hooked up to a grounded, protected Belkin power strip and they work fine too.

It's probably best if you mute the speakers before hitting the amp with power.

I have my monitors, console, synth and computer screens hooked up together on one strip.
Only ensuring the master fader is down when switching on/off.

For poewring up, unless you have built-in delayed power on your monitors, you chould turn on everything before the monitors.

The opposite for powering down

I'm not so worried about audible "pops" as I turn on the monitors last. It's more about possible spikes and surges. It just feels strange using a $4 dollar power strip to turn on $2500 monitors that might have a more involved powering procedure.

The reason I want to use a strip is because the power switches are on the back of the monitors and quite hard to get to.

Thanks

Bamse,

I see your point. I do a similar thing with my active speakers.

I only run PC and peripherals from a UPS.
Speakers from their own circuit which is hard wired to a mains switch under my desk. - the only protection I have for the speakers is the dedicated quick blow fuse in switchboard.

UPS is not designed for power strips (well mine states NOT to use them off protected circuit) - so that pretty well rules that out for you?

I am insured for lightening strikes etc so the health of the speakers it is in the lap of the Gods...

Hope this helps a little.

I don't have them hooked up to a UPS.

Most modern monitors go into a "standby" mode after a period of inactivity. The standby mode uses very little electricity. I don't bother turning off monitors anymore.
