hi, my name is jeff and i've stumbled upon this wonderful forum. i've been making music for 11 years and now i have the oppurtunity to build my studio with multiple rooms. a nice size controlroom (18 by 20), nice size vocal booth (8 by 18) machine room (6 by 18) a decent lounge (10 by 20) a small office (10 by 20) and storage

me and my wife are buying a new house built from the ground up) and the studio will be in the basement. its a full basement (32 ft wide by 48 ft long).

my control room will be about 18 ft by 20 ft and i want the wall behind my gear to have the 2- 12 ft mains, 2 tvs and 2 12 space racks in the wall. behind this wall, will be a machineroom (about 6 ft deep) to have access to the gear in the walls.

ive read almost all the topics on your forum,and seen the pictures on the other site where theres mostly pictures of other studios.

which brings me to my point and/or question
i dont rember seein any studios with tvs, 12" or bigger mains, and rack spaces in the main wall. i have seen some pictures in mix and eq magazine or is this set up not viable in todays project studio .

Hi Jeff - if you want to use the front wall for speakers and computer monitors or TVs you need to have a clear front wall - i.e. no window and you vocal booth must be to the side - maybe the opposite side to your machine room.

im a producer,i create mostly hip hop,neo-soul rap/rock and i do remixes.
i have recorded bands in the past but even than, it was only once in a blue moon. sometimes record guitarist but thats usally direct.
anyway, heres one of your designs that i wanted to model my control room after. the diffrence is,if you turned the contrl room sideways, the machine room would be in front of the monitors and the vocal booth would be behind the control room with a window of course.than exchange the bathroom for an office and thats petty much it.

Unless you want to keep the front wall very close to the mixing position, I'm not sure 20" screens will be large enough. Looks like they used a rear projection screen in the picture you posted. This is a great way of doing it.... although rather expensive. It completely eliminates acoustic reflections and diffraction from the computer monitors. If you combined a rear projection screen system like this http://www.draperinc.com/images/Catalog ... eraBox.pdf with a pair of projection monitors, you would have an incredible on screen working area.

What kind of mains did you have in mind?
