Is Melamine (Basotech from BASF) a good absorption product?

Hello,

Im very interested in these 3 products...

For mid-high frequency absorbtion:
http://www.customaudiodesigns.co.uk/abs ... lamine.htm
http://www.customaudiodesigns.co.uk/abs ... mine_2.htm

For basstraping:
http://www.proaudiosolutions.com/prod.itml/icOid/12763

Can someone look at the numbers on these product pages and let me know how these compare with Auralex type foam and Owens Corning 703?

Let me say I understand something like RealTraps will be better but Im in Germany and they are too expensive for me.

I want something that works but is also WHITE... I really believe the look/feel of the studio is very important... the past 3 studio spaces I owned were all grey and drab.

Big thanks to any advice anyone gives. I greatly appreciate it. Also any tips on the cheapest place to buy this stuff in Germany would be great.

Oh yeah... its as Firesafe as most other products in this class?

Thanks a lot!

Melamine resin foam originates from BASF and is called there Basotect (I think the Basotech is a typo). Check Google for Basotect.
You find it under numerous names as e.g. Willtec by Illbruck/Sonex.
You will find numerous suppliers using this foam for acoustic boards, but they often give it there own type name.

The basic foam has lower gasflow resistance than normal traditional acoustic foams and is mostly less good than polyester foam (for absorption).
It's very lighweight as you probably noticed.
The absorption data mentioned here is almost fraudulent. This is ugly.

Here is the test raport this data comes from:
http://www.auralex.com/testdata/test/lenrd.pdf
1) they are not measured as bass traps, hence those numbers don't mean much for the purpose they are intended for, and
2) even worse and fraudulent, they just copy the numbers of the polyester standard LENRDs as being equal to the Melamine other version, which I'm CERTAIN isn't true at all. This are quiet different materials, and not only related to color.
I don't know who is responsible for this, but this I call really ugly techniques, enough to shift Pro Audio Solutions to a blacklist.
And if Auralex misinformed Pro Audio Solutions then Auralex belongs on that blacklist. Anyhow one of both.
This is plain misleading nonsense, and abuse of official measurement reports. And as per Belgian law illegal.

The Custom Audio design materials are the original Illbruck materials (as I'm close to sure). That company is a serious company as I have the impression.

The fire properties of melamine versus traditional acoustic used polyesters and polyethers are very good. That's what makes the success of this material over traditional acoustic foam.

Ok so maybe Ill steer clear of melamine.

Honestly Im looking for 8 bass traps or equivalent in size RealTraps style traps and high-mid absorption panels for a small room 13x15.

I have 1000€ (euros) to spend and was hoping I could find something all white...

I know everyone here says build your own bass traps but I have no tools and at this point my German isnt so great so going into contruction type stores where many people dont speak Germany is well... hard!

I know Auralex and Primeacoustic sell here in Germany but these kind of look good to me too, Aixfoam:

For the walls/reflection points:

Basstraps?:
http://www.aixfoam.de/cgi-bin/shop/sh_a ... 9JRD04MDA0

hmm...

Can you ask them what density this foam has?
They do use polyester which is good.
