Is there a material that is good for both, STC and NRC? Or, to rephrase, what kind of material would be good for both of those things? -- Mario

Mario,

If you mean a material that's good for isolation and also absorption, I don't think that exists. These are not only different goals, but opposite.

Materials that absorb don't generally block sound well, and materials that block sound well are rigid and generally reflect. However, a wall hung on RISC clips isolates well and also gives some amount of bass trapping. But as far as I know, the bass trapping is fairly frequency selective, as opposed to broadband which is what all rooms need.

Maybe someone else who knows more than I do about isolation and construction can offer more.
