What would you do?

Here are drawings of how the space is set-up right now.
On the stairwall behind the drummer is 1 1/2" foam padding to help kill reflections. The 3/4" plywood platform is floating on those foam pool "noodles", and is carpeted.
The entire floor is carpeted.
What would you do to improve this space?

Hi Ed - nice to see you cleaned up the mess

:)
Here's my initial thoughts.
You could also consider placing a sliding glass door between the left area (studio) and the right area Control room at the top of the stairs.
cheers

John,
I have also thought about the sliding glass door, but there isn't enough ceiling height for it. I was SUPPOSED to receive a french door that I was going to use, but it got cut up during demolition (I am a cabinetmaker, working for a GC in NYC, so I get lot's of hand me downs, like rockwool insulation

)
The slot walls were my best guess also. The only problem is in the drum area which is tight as it is. Remember, I have the angled ceiling over the kit, so what would that change if anything?
What about the setup of the amps/speakers & key's. Anyone have input for a better layout?

How about just flipping the drum riser with the gear opposite it so you can have the slat resonator where John suggested.
You could put a plain ole double door design in. I used a 9 lite security door. Worked great for me. These dorrs are 84" Tall so they will fit just fine, just finish it off with a wall.

If you look at my elevation view, you will see the angled ceiling is now on the drummers right side. With this, I only have 42"h. vertical wall, then ceiling.
I was thinking something on the ceiling would help too.
Door wise, we're about to start another job. I'll see what is available for me to pirate.
For the curious, the company site is

So bring the platform more to the center of the room. And move the amps up against the wall.
Perhaps the other players can be seated when playing on bar stools maybe?
Just add'l Ideas.

DUH! - you are right:) forgot about the ceiling. How about a pocket door that slides back into the stairwell wall and has a glass window below the angled ceiling area ??
For the drum area I'd deaden that angled ceiling over the drummer

I'm working on acquiring the materials at no cost!

You have mentioned deadening the ceilings also. What is the recommended material, & method of attachment?
Thanks for all the input.

Just make simple timber frames with insulation within the frame, put plastic and cloth over the bottom (plastic optional) and hang from the ceiling.
like this drawing but without the plywood backing and turned around.

Just to make sure I get it right, I don't want to attach this directly to ceiling, I want to "hang" it away from to create a gap.
On my "back" wall, should I make similar "frames," and attach them to wall, or leave gap there also?
Thanks again,
