16 simulataneous tracks with Pro Tools LE?

Post by dReAmfReAk »

Hi

I would like to record/mix with 16 simultaneous tracks using Pro Tools LE and I'm wondering if the following setups would work.

All inputs are from an analog mixer with discrete 16 direct outs and monitored with Mix B:
- Daisy chain 2 Digi 002 racks together via firewire?
- 1 Digi 002 rack + M-Audio Octane (ADAT out into the Digi rack)?

or

All inputs are from 2 daisy chained Digi racks (or Digi rack + Octane):
- Monitored on 16 channel mixer without Mix B feature

Please advise, thanks.

Dont know if the octane supports the outputs.....

But a Behringer ADA-8000 will give you an additional 8 analog inputs and 8 analog outputs.

and your solution with a digi 002 and the ada-8000 will work.

OH! Thanks for reminding me abt Behringer's ADAT interface. I've just realised that while the Octane has ADAT out, it does not have an ADAT in and that will not allow 16 discrete playback channels am I right?

Protools LE hardware is not capable of daisy-chaining.

The 002 rack and console will accept 16 channels of seperate input 8 analog, and 8 channels via ADAT IN. if you use an 8 channel preamp with ADAT out that would work.

Correct the Octane doesnt support outputs from your interface like the behringer will.

It might be possible on a Mac, using a feature called "aggregate devices". Don't know for sure as I use a PC and only have 1 Digi 002(R)...

You can use an 002 and a Command|8 (via lightpipe) to get the full sixteen, or the digimax series by Presonus is good, the FS version s cheap too.

Check out this gearslutz thread...

It's said that the M-Audio Lightbridge can do the full 32 i/o with PTMP 7.3.1 c2.

I can't confirm it, though...

He's asking about PTLE not PTMP, he probably has an 002.

Good to know for the PTMP guys out there.
