what type speaker wire to buy

Post by gregg »

8) hey everyone! i'm still in the process of getting my home studio set up, and i'm down to wiring my nearfield monitors to the power amp! on the back of my amp (Behringer A500 Reference Amp) i have the regular 1/4 & XLR trs connections, but also have the binding posts for output 1, output 2, and one for bridged mono. on the back of my passive nearfield speakers (Tannoy Reveal 6) it just has a plus (+) and negative (-) binding post. would a speaker cable with a 1/4 trs on one end and a plus (+) and negative (-) banana plug on the other work, and if not could i cut the banana plug off strip the jacket back on the wire and just wire that into the binding posts? any help would be greatly appreciated. i'm getting ready to order speaker wire, and i want make sure i get the right thing!!
thanks in advance!!! gregg

I'd use the binding posts for both ends - check out pn# 781265B, here

I'm using the #10, 105 strands of #30 for speaker cables (only because I had some left over from an industrial project) but #12 is fine for speaker wire up to probably 50 feet at least. The main advantage of this wire is flexibility; lots of small strands.

If you believe OFC copper is important (I'm not convinced) any heavy gauge speaker wire will work... Steve
Soooo, when a Musician dies, do they hear the white noise at the end of the tunnel??!? Hmmmm...
