Does anyone know if these traps are the same as real traps?

Nope; Joel has been in touch with me and sent a bag for checkout (haven't had time to do much other than fondle it, but very nice workmanship and feel) - these are just well-made, zippered bags in various colors. You can also order them WITH filling, if you can't find it locally. For the money, I would NEVER try to make my own bags after seeing these - but if you're on a budget, you can fill 'em with your own locally acquired batts cheaper if you have a source.
Not sure what's even IN a Real trap; Ethan's pretty close-mouthed about it, can't blame him... Steve
