...need some rear wall diffusers

My control room is almost done, and I´ve started the acoustic treatment.
I have sufficiant bass absorbtion and I´m currently working on some slat resonators and clouds.

My rear wall has no form of treatment yet, and I´m not quite sure what to do. All my walls are non-paralell and is a shaped like a tall diamond.
My first plan whas to cover the entire rear wall with auralex like diffusers because it will work out "ok" and look good. My entire studio is decorated and designed quite exclusive, so the diffusers have to look good.

I know that this probably is´nt the first diffuser thread at this board, but I haven´t quite found what I´m looking for yet.

Budget? approx. 150$ @

thanks,

hawk

For that low a budget, if you're sure you want diffusion in your room you might want to consider a single, large, centered polycylindrical absorber. If you have fair building skills, you can build one for a lot less than you can buy a decent surface area of diffusion.

IF you don't like it, very little money wasted - it should be oriented vertically at the rear center of the room, with 2" or thicker insulation glued to the inside of the plywood for damping - 4 or 5mm plywood should work fine, you'll need some 1x6 lumber to cut out arched struts to support the plywood.

IF you need more info, let me know... Steve

as described in this thread?

I´ve read that diffusion is not recomended in small control rooms, so are there any alternatives? completely soft and dead rear wall treatment? hard surface like treated gypsum?

i´m eager to learn.

Not for Small Depth Control rooms, you have 20' of depth in your control room...Ample lenght for a bass wave to develop in size, so diffussion wont kill you :)

In a 10x10 room, you can never have enough bass absorption. Cover the back wall with 4" panels, or at the very least directly behind the mix position.

Hi, Hawk!

I´d really recommend you to access www.ingenieriadesonido.com and check the 1D Diffusers (fantasy named 'Marthena'); then contact the people there to give you more information.
They work as diffusers and, by consruction, as mid-bass absorbers. Really good functioning and good looking...

Hope it helps. Regards.

Chino.

All well and good, but does anyone remember this?

Budget? approx. 150$

Unless materials are incredibly cheap in the land of Odin, poly's are about the ONLY type of diffusion that fits the budget IMO.

Hawk, that's exactly what I was referring to in the thread at RO... Steve

Any chance of posting a floor plan? We might make better suggestions with one...

Yeah, Giles! You should listen to them... They are really good.
And, as far as I know, they are not that expensive.

I had the opportunity to listen to them in many studios here in Argentina and some in Brasil. And I know they are selling to Europe and the rest of America.
I´m going to use them in future works...

Contact them for more technical info. The guys are very well informed, and very didactic.

Regards!!

Hahahahaaaaa!!! Yes, I know, Hawk.
They come in blue, I think. But you can paint them any color you want... lets say... purple with green stripes... Hahahaa!!!

yeah! purple will go well together with my "ten minute" sketchup illustration!

it´s not very detailed, but it gives you the right idea... kind of...
