Mogami cable: drain wire and shielding together?

I'm building some snakes to run my preamps to and from my patchbay using 16 channel Mogami snake cable. Each channel has a drain wire and served (spiral) bare copper shield. Do I solder both of these twisted together as one? I'm not using crimp connectors, but if I was, what would I do with the copper wires?

Is it the braided shield?

No, it's not braided.

I normally just cut off the copper and use the drain wire for the shield connection. Much easier for soldering.
