Ready to Begin Wiring/Cabling

Post by PoppaJOL »

Hello:

I'm a newbie who's been lurking for a short while. I am setting up my new studio from scratch and would love any suggestions you have regarding cabling. I am considering making most of the cables from scratch but am very open to suggestions. I want to do whatever will get the best performance. Funds are not a big factor though I don't want to spend unneccesarily. My set-up includes:

2 custom DAW computers from VisionDAW networked and using MIDIoverLAN.

Computer 1 Will have Sibelius, Sonar5 Producer and Samplitude V8
MOTU 2408 MKIII Audio interface

Computer 2 Will have GigaStudio 3 Orchestra and Samples
RME Hammerfall 96532 sound card

Mackie 1642 VLZ Pro Anolog mixer

Alesis Masterlink CD burner

Alesis HD 24 (24 track Hard Disk recorder)

From previous set ups I also have a 1U patch bay, a midisport 8x8, an Alesis Microverb III, and an Audiocom Pro-XL compressor/limiter.

Of course, there are nearfields and three flatscreen monitors, mics, etc.

The computers arrive next week. I have everything else except the HD 24 (and cables). My intention is to write and record Classical Symphonic and Chamber music, Broadway and Vegas show music, and Orchestral Jazz using mostly samples with some live vocals and maybe some live solo instruments. Any thoughts about what need to think about before I start to cable all this together would be gratefully appreciated. Thanks.

PoppaJOL,

Greetings and welcome to the site.

I'm not quite sure I understand what you're asking here.

Hello Aaronw:

Thanks for the welcome. The more I read and follow these forums, the more I realize I don't know. Often I find issues I wasn't even aware existed. I was a bit worried that I might need to use certain types of cable or that I should connect things in a special way. Since my system is relatively simple compared to some, it appears that there shouldn't be too many problems as long as I use decent quality materials and keep the power and audio cables separated. I will continue studying to find out if there's more I need to know and to get more specific in my questions. Thanks again.
