hello thomas, john and all...
i'm building a friends room on a small budget and wanted to experiment with diy 2-way soffit mounted speakers...
so, had to remind you of this...
..."PS - Next on the DIY project list is an inexpensive two-way monitor designed specifically for soffit mounting. Stay tuned!"
looking forward to it...
jai shankar.

jai, welcome; first, can you click the top link about first posts and follow at least the part about updating your profile to include a location? Thanks...
Second, I wouldn't recommend "holding your breath" until Thomas gets back to that particular project; he's been so busy with the new company roll-out he's only posted on the site twice since January.
On the other hand, Thomas has recommended at least one "MTM" type kit in the past, which should (with the addition of a 6 dB bass shelf filter) sound at least as good soffited as any commercial boxes. There is some info on this type speaker here
http://www.speakerbuilding.com/
And some kits/components/info
http://www.speakercity.com/Merchant2/me ... re_Code=SC
Some study material (I confess I've yet to read more than part)
http://www.linkwitzlab.com/frontiers.htm
And a good choice (but not exactly low budget)
http://www.madisound.com/cgi-bin/index. ... rds=solist
I'm sure that when Thomas finally gets a breather he would have a lot better info for you, sorry but I've yet to talk him into a "brain dump" so I do what I can... Steve

Jai, I found nothing rude about your post at all; it sounded to me like a gentle reminder to Thomas, who (our loss) hasn't had time to be here much - I'm glad if you got some use out of my answer. I too am considering a pair of the 7" dual aluminum woofer MTM kits probably with dual 15" subs when I build my new facility - if it weren't on a fairly tight budget, I'd love to use some of Thomas' mini-mains soffited in the CR - it conditions change by the time I'm that far along, I probably will... I've built the Solist that Steve posted the link to. I like them very much. I'm thinking about building a much cheaper MTM kit just so I can compare the sound. I don't know how soon I will be getting around to it. If you can afford the Solist, you won't be dissapointed. Somewhere here Thomas posted a 6dB that he said would work for me if I ever soffit mounted these.
