Hi all,(ethan if your around ;-)
just wondering how important the 1" gap between the front panel and fiberglass is?
if it was less than an inch because you used 2" fiberglass how would this effect the performance.

thanks.

Bryan,

The gap can be as small as you want, and smaller is probably better than larger. Just be sure there's no chance the fiberglass can touch the front panel.

Also, please understand that besides damping the panel motion, the fiberglass also serves to lower the Q of the trap. That broadens the range of frequencies absorbed (good) but also lowers overall efficiency (bad). I can't give you exact numbers for how much either parameter changes if you use 2-inch 703 instead of 1-inch. I can tell you that 1-inch 703 works just fine when building an equal number of low-bass and high-bass types.
