O.K. I have to cut some acoustic foams but I want it to look professional or close, specially since those thick 4 inch acoustic foams can get real jaggedy if you cut them by scissors.

Speaking to people with experience and have been successful, what home methods and equipment did they use to get a clean cut with foam.

I am debating about building a hotwire foam cutter that I see on the web, but wondering if anyone has tried to use this to cut acoustic foams and have they been successful?

My other option was buying an electric knife. Has anyone here tried cutting foam with an electric knife, and what was the outcome?

I've known people to cut it with a Hot Knife. But I've never done it myself. A good utility blad with a healthy bit of compression will slice through it pretty good.

John, how was the cuts like with the electric knife. Did it look clean. Were you able to cut shapes with it.

What do you mean by utility blad, sword9? Do you mean a scalpel of some sort or surgical knife?

The utility knife has a razor blade. I hear people call them box knives too.

....The cut is as straight as you can make it.
