Thought Id ask here what the latest prices on the OC 703 (1" 3 lb pcf) pricing is and if it pays to go to an alternative? I plan to call SPI here in Nashville that carries the JM line of spin glass, and their Kentucky office carries OC, so I'll ask both offices. I am also looking at comments of using rockwool between the walls vs fiberglass batts, our contractor here in Nashville say that rockwool is actualy less expensive.. Any comments will be appreciated.. Dave

By the way, were in the framing stage of the studio here in Lebanon, east of Nashville, next few weeks we will be framing the inside walls, yep, the fun has started.

Use whatever is the cheapest and fits what you need. 703 generically is "3.0 lb/ft^3 fiberglass". Roughly speaking acousitcally the Rockwool equivalent generically is "4.0 lb/ft^3 mineral wool"

Just some of the companies that have similar productrs are:

JM
Roxul
Knauf
Delta
Fibrex

1" 703 can be had for around $6.50 per 2x4 sheet in small quantities. For larger quantities, discounts can be had.

Without specifying where this is, the price is useless. Prices vary from region depending on local construction boom/bust cycle, raw material availiability, proximity of factories, competition between suppliers and retailers, and the phases of he moon. :D

The price is in St. Louis. The source is me. I was simply trying to be somewhat potitcally correct and not go selling in open forum. If that's not a no-no, that's fine.

Thanks for the good wishes.

For completeness, if anyone is interested, I also carry the Bonded Acoustical Cotton in 1", 2", and 4". Prices are higher but I've found it to work very well for reflection points and the 4" product even though less dense, does a very nice job across a corner. The 1" and 2" is also available faced. Discounts are also available on these products for larger quantities.
