Acoustic sealant specs anybody ?

Find out where to get building materials in your local area. If you find a good outlet post it and others will be able to access it through the search engine.

Acoustic sealant specs anybody ?

Post by philofparis »

Hi all !
great site, lots of info
Could someone here give me the specs of some acoustic sealant sold in the States or elsewhere (just read the specs on the tube)
here in France nobody even knows about it, seems like it does'nt exist.

Maybe they never build recording studios!
thanks for helping

Auralex Stopgap is sold worldwide. look for auralex distributor.
Another option is Mapei Mapeflex (name in austria). it's butyl rubber with high internal damping.

Hey Phil,

I'm also in the Paris area, just doing a reno on a basement studio. I had the same question as you, and after looking around, I found that a "mastic" called "Sikaflex PRO 11FC" specified often for acoustic applications. Our local Bricomarché had a similar product called "Sikaflex -11FC" that is what I decided on. Cost was about 6 euros per tube.

It's properties are: adheres to almost anything; won't harden; can be stretched up to 400% without breaking; rebounds more than 90%.

So far so good.

Good luck; let me know if you find a better product.
