power amp?

Could you please recommend a power amp (not real expensive) to match up with my Event 20/20 passive monitors. I'm looking at a Alesis RA150. I would like something without a fan, so as to keep the noise down.

Thanks,
Jeff

In that price range, the Alesis is probably your best bet; most others seem to be PA types, usually with fans. If you're not trying to move walls, the 150 will be clean... Steve

or maybe an older Yamaha second hand - no fans and really good sound. Big and heavy for the amount of power they put out - that's why you can often get them cheap. But they're good amps. And if you're not going to be carrying them around every weekend, who cares how much they weigh? ;)

Dont mean to hijack the topic, but what do you all think of the Carvin power amps for home studio use?

Thanks, the Carvins should be good. I've not heard much about them, but they are more money than either the Hafler or Alesis.
I think I am going with the Hafler from information I have gathered it should do the job just as good if not better than the Alesis and hey it's $50 cheaper!
I'd still like to know what people think!
Thanks :D

Hi ,

If you can try to get a Hafler P1000 or P1500 ( or a P3000 if you find a killer deal ;-)

The Hafler P series it pretty well respected but I seem to remember that people who like the P series didn't think much of the newer and lower cost TA 1600. Do a Google groups search on it.

Shop Ebay for a good deal on a P series. I got a nice P1500 on Ebay a few years ago for $250 and some lucky person just got one for $165 a week ago or so :

I also think the Crown D-75A amps sound good ( some people don't ) but they are a little pricey new.

Best of luck!

Thanks for all your info and advice! Maybe if you would be so kind as to lend a little more. I have been using Mosvalve MV-962 power amp that was manufactured by Tubeworks. Anybody have anything to share on this amp/ speaker combo (Mosevalve/Event 20/20) I'm all ears! Worst complaint so far as I'm concerned is fan noise, followed by the fact that there seems to be a little noise comming through even when no material is present. Not sure if the latter would still be the cases with say a HaflerTA1600, Alesis RA150 or not since I have no other experience. Once again any and all advice would be much apreciated! :-)

Thanks
Jeff
