Hey there..

i have 2 speakers and a sub with X over.. all running from a A and R cambridge amp..

I have the 2 speakers directly in front of me and the sub on the floor next to my right just in the corner...

they are all placed in a line from left to right..

there is a Phase pot on the back of the sub..

at the moment i have set this to 0. .. however the dial goes to 180 degrees...

so you think this is setup correctly?
or do i need to do more testing?

Assuming the sub is crossed over at 80 hZ (surround quasi-standard) you can play an 80 hZ tone thru the system (only one of the stereo speakers at a time, plus the sub) - set a SLM up at the mix positon so you can see the meter (they're almost all OMNI, so don't worry about where it's AIMED) - set volume so the SLM reads 80 dB (C weighted), now watch the meter and adjust the phase control til it's maxed out.

Now, left speaker off right speaker on, repeat - make note of the degrees the phase control is at each test's peak level. IF they're not the same and differ by more than about 10-15 degrees, move the sub and retest.

One way of quick sub placement - find a way to support the sub at the mix location at ear height, then crawl around on the floor (construction kneepads are a good idea here) - when you find the best sounding, most even bass response, put the sub where your ears were.

Retest for phase as above, and make minor position tweaks til you're good... Steve
