I want to order 2" acoustic foam for my bedroom studio 10'x12' and i would like to find out the best location for it .Do you guys have any good tips for placement without using expensive meters?


just keep in mind this is only hobby studio and i want to improve my mixes.
i know that i never be able to master like a pro i my bedroom but i was wonderig what i could to just to make it better. Acoustic foam is pretty affordable and if can use it that would be awesome.
What about foam bass absorbers? should i use them?

I came across this tip for acoustic foam:

When treating the front and side walls, try using a mirror to ascertain where reflections are coming from. Simply have a friend move a mirror around the walls and ceiling while you are sitting at the mix position. Anywhere you can see your studio monitors in the reflection is a likely surface to treat with an Studio foam panel

That "tip" is 100% right. If you have enough foam, go an extra 4 - 6 " past the reflection points.

also would like to know if I have to move my desk or just leave it the way it is? I would preferred have my set up as is on my pic.

I hope you are joling witht he question. You wrote the room is 10 x 12 but your drawing is obvsiouly not to scale, so is the desk cenetred or not in the room?

If your room is that close to square, it's not critical that the long dimension is the direction you face; here's a pic that sort of identifies what you need in ANY small room, basically you will need absorption behind your speakers to help SBIR and smooth out speaker response, absorption at first reflection points, and MORE absorption behind you. If you hang some of that foam spaced off the wall over your bed, it will help rear reflections somewhat. Other than that, the desk/speakers/your head need to be centered SIDE TO SIDE, but NOT in any OTHER dimension. Measure the height of the center of your woofer cones, it should NOT be within 5-6" of centered VERTICALLY, nor should your head. Check out these two thread for more -
