This somewhat goes with my other post of broadband reduction on an edit composition room @ home. 18'x12'x9' room with hardwood floors. I will be treating the corners with OC705 panels and 703 or 705 panels for general absorbtion. My question is the ceilings. I can make more rigid fiberglass panels for the ceiling but since it's a rental I don't want to do too much drilling and hanging on the ceiling. I have 14 2'x4' pieces of Auralex pyramids. I'm thinking of cutting them into 1' squares and tiling them on the ceiling with 4" spaces between them. This should break up some of the most offending reflections. No? I know Auralex is a poor performer next to real clouds but I wonder what the difference would be in this application.

What do you expect? We do not know the exact details, and you know the plan is not optimal. Try it!

Just wanting to get the general ring out of the room and help with the HF imaging wash. Not going to go crazy about taming bass or room modes. Just wanted to hear if anyone has used the Auralex in this application and what their impressions were. Thanks.

..seemed like he has the Auralex already. The foambymail stuff is poor at best, maybe suitable to stuff somewhere or make gobos out of. I bought a small box of 3" nobody bid on through ebay. It was highly inconsistent in thickness, the foam density seems less heavy than Auralex, a way better product.
I don't know what kind of ceiling you have but regular pushpins work great for putting up Auralex on smooth-type drywall finishes. When you're done you don't really see the holes and/or it's a simple fix...
I made some crude clouds by putting Auralex on both sides of a thin plywood and suspended them with picture wire, it's not much more holes than another way. Certainly don't glue it up, you'll be stripping the glue..and the paint with it.
