Control Room Ceiling Treatment

Hello all,

My studio construction just finished and I am in the process of putting acoustic treatment on the walls. The question I had was about ceiling treatment. My ceiling height is 7'9", I have Pergo flooring in the room. Currently, I have some custom made OC703 (3") panels in all four corners and front and back walls. You can see te pictures here:

With these panels, when I clap in the room I hear a slight ringing sound that seems to be coming from the ceiling. I am hoping that when I put all my equipment, a couch and a rug in the room this ringing sound will go away. Do you think I should go ahead and put some treatment on the ceiling? If so what would be better considering the ceiling height and the flooring? Do I need absorbtion or diffusion? I was thinking about putting a mix of auralex diffusers and absorbers right above the mix area, since they are not so thick.

I would really prefer to treat the ceiling before I move all my equipment in there. Thanks in advance for your help.

I seem to remember reading some time back that if you have low ceilings, it's good to put some type of absorption up there.

:D

Oh Yeah and avoid the rug in the room. Just trap that ceiling. I ended up using 3" Rock wool in my ceiling and it really mad the mids gel even beyond what I had acheived with all the other construction :)

Hey Giles- I noticed that you're in the Motor City. I'm about 40 miles west of you. Got a project/home studio thingy going on here. Might I ask where you obtained the rockwool mentioned in this thread? I finally got some 703-- but
it took many phone calls to get it. My low ceiling needs attention and maybe the product you've used is the ticket. Let me know, if you will. And--thanks to all of you guys for the input in this forum. It's appreciated.

Giles,

Was it in your ceiling or did you do clouds? If clouds how did you do it? I have 11 4x8 sheets of 3" rock wool left and I want to use themfor clouds above the mix position.

Thanks,
Dave
