I had a similar thought. Until I fired them up again last week and was impressed at how effortless the NS-10M's are to listen to over a long period. I was also surprised to find out that Yamaha does not make these classics anymore, possibly putting them in the category of "collectable". So, IMHO, I would suggest that you keep them as a legendary set of mix reference monitors. Who knows, maybe they'll appreciate in value.
cheers, Al

That's fairly surprising, as NS-10's give me a headache quicker than most anything else I've used.
If they work for you , keep them. If not, don't. The ultimate measure will be whether your mixes are better with or without them, and how they fit into your workflow.

I agree with Jon; I've yet to hear NS-10s in ANY environment that I didn't want to LEAVE.
However, there is a LARGE contingent of die-hards who disagree;

and they're not going to get cheaper, so if it's an investment you want I'd store them in a proper environment (NOT the basement) and keep checking Ebay for going prices... Steve

I use NS-10's for one reason, if I can get a good sounding mix on them, my mix translates well on just about any system. I'm not in the studio to listen to music, I'm in there to create a great mix.

as they are a near field studio "standard" i say keep them..personally i find the lackof bottom and subsiquent unfoudationed midrange and unatural top unerving...but clients like consistency going to different studio..personally i like Tannoy PBM 6.5's as nearfields.
.hey i started before the nearfied craze [unless you count the CSG feed mono table radio we also monitored on] then those dang 4311's and Aurotones came in studio nearfied use..with only 604e's amd then 813's with sub and finally Auxburgers in an Auxburger designed room
