Replacing ridged duct with flex duct

How thick should my walls be, should I float my floors (and if so, how), why is two leaf mass-air-mass design important, etc.

Replacing ridged duct with flex duct

Post by christophercarr86 »

The recording studio is in the basement of my home. I am building a RWAR.

I have 3 ducts that run from my house HVAC to other rooms in the house that run through the outer ceiling of the studio. They do not connect or penetrate the studio at all. My question is there any sound isolation improvement by replacing these (11' sections" of ridged HVAC duct with flex duct ?

I understand the air flow and HVAC concerns with flex duct. This is strictly from a volume perspective. Would replacing the ridged duct to flex duct help reduce sound transferring into the duct work through the ceiling ? Or is there no difference as it does not penetrate the studio ?

Thanks!
