Need advice on buying acoustic panels and bass traps

Post by ZdravkoDimitrov »

Hi everyone,

First time, referred here by Glenn :)

I am trying to outfit a modest home studio for recording and streaming. I have attached photos of the room and rough dimensions, if they aren't clear enough, I will upload more.

I am looking for acoustic treatment panels and bass traps, and my budget is pretty small (under $300 CAD ideally). Don't need to outfit the entire room, just the area around the desk, as the room will have a bunch of reflective items and materials on the other walls.

I have found a few options, are they any good? I am open to any other suggestions.

Fibre, rigid enough not to sag...... 705 equivalent, here it would be Knauf Earthwool 100KG Electrical Trap. Bedsheets

Hi, thank you for replying, but I cannot go the DIY route, so have to buy something. I would appreciate any advice.

The issue with foam products is simply lower performance vs rigid fiberglass panels.

ATS or GIK have reasonably affordable 2" panels. ATS is available via Amazon.

GIK has a manufacturing operation in EU so shipping may be less. check and see if you have some more local acoustics supply centers.

Primacoustic are in Canada. But 300 bucks will buy very little. Thus the DIY suggestion.

Thanks for everyone's help. I am working with a very small space in a home recording / streaming setting, so not looking for large scale, professional solution. Not looking for optimal performance, just something to absorb and deflect sound to avoid echo and bass amplification.

Does anyone have any experience with the options in the links I shared? Or maybe the new Elgato panels?

There is no thin or cheap product which works. Wall hangings, thick, with an airgap behind will stop flutter echo and tame the room tone a little. Bedspreads, Polyester filled Duvets, towels ditto. Thick Theatre Curtains, particularly when pleated to create depth, are quite effective.
