Green Glue vs limp hanging MLV

How thick should my walls be, should I float my floors (and if so, how), why is two leaf mass-air-mass design important, etc.

Green Glue vs limp hanging MLV

Post by princeplanet »

For a floor which needs to isolate LF. We're going for stiffness, 50mm particle board in 2 layers upon a rubber mount supported, insulation filled air gap. To help the LF T/L a little, I'd like to add GG between the particle board sheets, but my designer suggests hanging MLV limply under the floating floor in the gap.

Any thoughts about which option would work better in attenuating bass and drums through a floor? (existing floor is 125mm concrete slab...)

Your designer can probably give reasons for his preference both acoustically and financially.
