PVC Board to beef up studio door?

I'm working on the door to my soundproof studio project, and my current plan includes a solid wood door, with acoustic seals at the threshold and around the perimeter of the door jamb.

My plan is to add a layer of material on the inside of the door, about 3/8" thick, with Green Glue sandwiched inbetween to beef up the door. It will be 1/2" larger than the door on two sides to further cover the top and side seams and create a stairstep.

What would be a good material to use for this? My builder is suggesting a sheet of 3/8" PVC board?

I'd go with MDF and forget the green glue.

Your builder recommended some of the lightest rigid material there is. This is exactly the opposite of what you need. I hope you've been very clear with your builder to follow your design because he clearly doesn't understand your requirements for maintaining mass. Make sure he knows that everything has be air tight. Everything. You are adding the material to add mass. As John said, use MDF as it is very heavy. I would recommend gluing and screwing it.
