Basement Ceiling insulation - worth the cost?

Hi,

I'm finishing my 1,000 sqft basement and will have a 15' X 14' area that will be the music room and will be following advise on this forum to achieve some decent isolation.

By question is on the rest of my basement that is not studio related. There will be an exercise room and family room. Does it make sense to stuff the ceilings of the non-studio area with insulation? R30 insulation will cost about $1,200 for the whole basement ceiling and just want to make sure it would be worth the money.

Thanks!
Jason

I don't think so. I'd suggest using dropped ceiling tiles for the rest of the basement which would allow you to access wiring, electrical, plumbing, etc in the future if any issues come up. It will also allow you to easily change lighting locations/upgrades or to do things like installing speakers in your ceiling.
