Owens Corning QuietR Rotary Duct Liner and QuietR Duct Board

How thick should my walls be, should I float my floors (and if so, how), why is two leaf mass-air-mass design important, etc.

Owens Corning QuietR Rotary Duct Liner and QuietR Duct Board

Post by Cinematic6436 »

Does anyone know if 1" Owens Corning QuietR Duct Board would work just as well as 1" QuietR Rotary Duct Liner for the inside of a silencer box? My local source for the latter recently evaporated, saying they no longer carry Owens Corning products. I might be better off, though, because if my calculations are correct, I can do what I need to do with two 1"x48"x120" sheets and won't have to buy an entire roll (which I would only use 20% of).

Is it possible to fold a sheet of duct board to transport it in the backseat of a typical car? If not, do you need a saw to cut it, or would a simple box cutter suffice? Any help anyone could give me would be greatly appreciated.

Update -- I contacted an Owens Corning representative who said duct board would function comparably to the rotary duct liner. Also, you can cut it with a standard utility knife. Here's some acoustical performance data from OC if anyone's interested:

Thickness 125 250 500 1000 2000 4000 NRC
1" roll .12 .35 .76 .97 1.00 1.00 .75
1" board .10 .24 .74 1.02 1.06 1.06 .75
