Wall Construction - MDF or Chipboard?

Hi Guys,

I am at the stage of plastering my studio/ practice room walls. My room is built within a double garage and is sealed from the weather.

The plan was to go with 2 x 16mm Gyprock fyrcheck with a layer of green glue in between on each leaf of the walls. I am looking at costs of Fyrchek and have come across a cheap supplier that does both 16mm chipboard and 16mm MDF at a much better price than buying the fyrcheck. This has lead me to consider doing the first layer in chipboard or MDF and only the outer layer in Fyrcheck.

Obviously there is a weight difference between plasterboard and MDF/chipboard, so I would need to make sure that my frames can handle the extra weight, but does anyone have any experience or input on other pros or cons in constructing my walls this way? Is it a good idea? If it is, would MDF or Chipboard be the better option.

I'm in Melbourne, Australia btw.

Thanks

Can you not get standard sheetrock? Here in the US it is less than half the price of those other options.
