All,

I've been reading this GREAT forum - what an awesome wealth of info. I've learned a lot and am ready to start.

Here is my plan:

My studio demensions are 26.5 feet X 16.5 feet. The control room's glass will be on the left side - not in front like traditional rooms. I've included a sketch of the studio....

My floor will be floated - both rooms (live & control room). I'm not going to float the ISO-Booth because when someone is in there doing vocals I don't believe the sounds will pollute the control room. The floor will be floated on strips of 1/2" thick (wiht a rating of 60) that are 1 inch wider (on each side) than the joist. I read the thread and will try my best to calculate the weight of the materials & equipment so the pucks are within 15% to 75%.

All the walls that FACE the concrete walls will be single walls made from two layers of 5/8" rock on metal studs - stuffed with 4 inches of mineral wool insulation. The other walls that face the inside of the basement, and divide the control & live rooms will be DOUBLE WALLS. EACH WALL being made of two layers of 5/8" rock, metal studs (with 4" mineral wool). These walls will be very "generously" caulked as well.

The walls will be installed ON TOP of the floated floor. The floated floors of the live and control rooms - will be two(2) SEPERATE FLOORS.

The glass I planned to use was going to be one(1) 6 foot X 2.5 foot @ 1/4" thick - tempered glass pane. And the other is 6 foot X 2.5 foot @ 3/8" thick - tempered. THese panes would be mounted/floated in neoprene or cork.

The ceiling will be attached to the joists on R.C. and have two layers of 5/8" rock. In between the joists will be 4" mineral wool. So the finished height of the ceiling will then be 1-1/4" BELOW the TOP of the walls (correct?)

Doors will be double doors in the control room as well as the live room. (although the drawing don't reflect the control-romm's double doors) The ISO-Booth will have a glass door? (not sure - any advice would be cool...)

That's about it for now. I'll be posting as I go along. If anybody has any advise or thinks I may going in the wrong direction - please post or you can send me an email to:

Thanks Guys!!

The flat surface on your north Live room wall, you should do a angled slat resonator there. And your lower left wall of the live room should be angled to counteract that parallel wall to it's right.

Dont have that parallel wall situation in your control room that your mix desk is between. Keep it at an angle. :)

just for starters.
