What absorption requirement for radio/podcast booth?

Hello all,

I have a 8x5x8ft room that will be used as is for recording speaking level voice. Currently wood floor on joists and drywall walls. The only improvements we plan to make is in regards to absorption. The floor can be carpeted.

What information is available about average absorption necessary for a room this size for this purpose?

I am especially trying to understand how this would possibly differ from music regarding spectrum (voice range only? therefore thinner absorption 1" panels?), as well as the percentage of the room that should be covered in absorption vs reflective.

Should I just concentrate on calculating something like sabines to understand coverage necessary?

Thanks.

Small rooms will always have a "boxy" sound to them. That's unavoidable. The only real choice is to make the room rather dead, acoustically, then add a bit of ambience in the mix.

This thread might interest you. It's about a room for tracking drums, but the same applies in the case of vocals, to a lesser extent: http://www.johnlsayers.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=21108
