faced batts ceiling

Post by macmanmatty »

When put my insulation up into the ceiling I used FACED BATTS sadly  and then hung the RC-8 Resilient channel and on that a layer 7/16" plywood and then a layer 3/4" hardwood plywood. How much isolation did I lose from faced batts?

I don't think it is going to be a problem. I doubt it would make much difference, to be honest. I wouldn't worry about it. You can't use faced batts in some types of acoustic treatment, but there shouldn't be a problem using it inside an isolation system.

I thought the facing made a three leaf effect and would hurt LF isolation?

You mean faced with a strong paper? That doesn't make another leaf. Not nearly enough mass for that matter. If it is exposed, as Stuart said, like in an absorber, it will reflect some higher frequencies.
