UK INSULATION

Hi Guys,

Just about to buy my insulation for between the stud walls (before i cover with 2 layers of plasterboard/drywall) but I just want to make sure I get the best choice. I have been reading that 45kg/m2 is the best for this. Unfortunately I am unable to find database sheets for acoustic properties only thermal

Can someone please let me know which is the best out of the 4 below:

Many thanks
Craig

KNAUF
100MM EARTHWOOL FLEXIBLE INSULATION SLABS KNAUF (PACK OF 5)

Slab size: 1200mm x 600mm
Area per pack: 3.60m²
Thermal conductivity: 0.037 W/mK
R-Value: 2.70 m2K/W
Density: 45 kg/m²

Earthwool Flexible is a non-combustible, inorganic rock mineral wool slab, used for thermal and acoustic insulation and specifically designed for installation by friction fitting. Earthwool Flexible is odourless, non-hygroscopic, rot proof, does not sustain vermin and will not encourage the growth of fungi, mould or bacteria.

KNAUF
100mm Earthwool RS45 Universal Insulation Slab Knauf (Pack of 5)

Slab size: 1200mm x 600mm
Area per pack: 3.6m²
Thermal conductivity: 0.035 W/mK
R-Value: 2.86 m2K/W
Density: 45 kg/m3
Surface Spread of Flame: Class 1

Earthwool RS45 Universal Slabs are unfaced, rock mineral wool slabs, available in a range of densities from 33 to 200 kg/m3. The standard product is supplied unfaced, but slabs can also be manufactured with a factory applied foil or tissue facing and are also available with a water repellent additive.

Hi Craig,

If it's exposed to the room (i.e. just covered with cloth) I would go with the RWA45… but if you need it just to fill in the cavity between studs and after that cover it with plasterboard, then probably even the cheaper fluffy insulation often used in lofts would be fine (some people would say that's even a better option as it's more effective for low frequencies absorption) - I reckon…but if not sure perhaps wait for one of the experts to confirm it…basically I'd save the RWA for acoustic treatments inside the room

Hope this helps

Thanks guys, for me it doesnt really matter if i get rwa45 or rw3 as they are both the same price with my supplier. Would you say to go for the RWA45 as I can use it between the walls and for bass traps later. Or should I go for a split?

Thanks again
