Studio Rebuild!

How thick should my walls be, should I float my floors (and if so, how), why is two leaf mass-air-mass design important, etc.

Hi Javier,

Great looking build! Very inspiring! I am wondering what are the dimensions of your room? And is building inside out with slats basically the same as far treatment goes, as having solid walls with absorption panels?

Also what are you powering your NS10s with, I just got a pair and am trying to decide on an amp.

Thanks,
Allen

Yes, finished! Just need to buy a small fridge as part of the liquid absorption 8)
No further test! But to my ears is pretty good, really improving my mixes

Amac, my room is 5x4 meters, 2.9 meters height
As far as the framing, I didn't needed any isolation, the framing is just the support for the acoustic treatment since I don't like panels in an aesthetic way, I like "all in one" control rooms where the treatment is somehow hidden and part of the decoration. Looks for me are just as important as sound cause you and your clients will spend most of the day there.
I'm powering my yamahas with a 200 bucks 100w soundtech. Ns10s doesn't provide much detail itself so I don't think using an expensive power for them justifies.

Thanks John!!

Thanks for the response Javier!

One last question if you don't mind? Is there any rhyme or reason to the spacing in a slat wall like yours or is that purely a matter of what you think looks good?

Studio looks wicked!

Javier - I found that NS10s work better with lots of power - I used to drive mine with a Bryson 3B.

Amac, I wanted to have 50% absorption on my walls ( if you sum the fabric surface is 50% ) and also have some diffusion . A friend of mine gave me a BAD slat sequence and it worked pretty good, the stereo image is great.

John, how many watts is that power? What did you feel that improved?

it's around 300W - everything was just clearer (more amp headroom I suppose) - borrow a quality 300W amp and compare it for yourself.
